The International Studies Office operates two main functions:

  • To meet the needs of International Students and
  • To provide Study Abroad and Exchange Program Opportunities for all OBU students

Consider Your Off-Campus and
International Academic Options

ONE YEAR
Study in Japan at Seinan Gakuin. This exchange program lets you take your OBU award money with you. Instruction in English; you will start learning Japanese; courses transfer to OBU. Appropriate for students of any major.

ONE YEAR OR ONE SEMESTER
Study in Hong Kong Baptist University. Instruction is in English; courses transfer to OBU; you will have a course in Mandarin but will also pick up some Cantonese. Appropriate for students of any major.

ONE SEMESTER

  • Latin American Studies Program – Language (home stay), culture, ecology, politics, economics, and religion in Costa Rica.
  • Honours Programme, Oxford – A semester at Oxford University, studying in one of many fields available.
  • China Studies Program – Based in Xiamen (S.E. China), study Chinese language, history, culture, economics, and religions.
  • American Studies Program – Working in Washington, D.C., combine classroom instruction with hands-on internships; relate a Christian perspective with policy analysis and real-world experiences.
  • Russian Studies Program – Study Russian history, culture, and language (home stay) in Moscow, Petersburg, and Nizhni Novgorod.
  • Middle East Studies Program – Based in Cairo, study Islam, Arabic, and Middle Eastern cultures.

SIX WEEKS

  • Cultural Interaction in Xinjiang, China – Work with Xinjiang University English majors to teach English to high-school students. See China through the eyes of natives.

ONE MONTH

  • Summer Institute of Journalism – Be a reporter in Washington, D.C., have your work critiqued by experts and then sent to your local newspaper. 4 weeks.
  • L.A. Film Studies Center – Combine classes with an internship in your area of interest in the film industry. 4 weeks.
  • Oxford Summer Programme – Tutorials in history, literature, and theology. 3 weeks.
  • Spanish Immersion and Comparative Civilization (Mexican) – Lower-division Spanish through the Instituto Miguel de Cervantes, upper-division Spanish and Comp. Civ. through the University of Guanajuato.

JANUARY TERM
Each January, OBU study groups go abroad. Venues generally include:

  • London:
    • Mass Communications in Britain
    • London Theatre
    • Sociology–The Streets of London
    • Religion in the British Isles
  • Paris: French language and culture
  • Spain: Spanish language and culture (Madrid and Barcelona)
  • Haiti: Nursing practicum
  • German: German language and culture (Germany and Austria)
  • Europe: Humanities in Italy and Austria
  • Mexico: International Business

Teacher Education graduates may teach in the Moscow Economic School.

With enough lead time, OBU can probably place any qualified student in any study in any country – at least we try to do that.
