Oklahoma
Baptist University launched a capital campaign in 1996 to raise
funds for capital projects, endowment objectives and operational
needs. The campaign had three goals: $15 million base (goal reached
in September 1998); $20 million challenge (goal reached in February
2000); and a $25 million victory goal (goal reached in June 2001).
As of August 31, 2002, gifts and pledges stood at $31,043,385.21.
Although OBU has surpassed the victory goal, the campaign continues
as the University seeks gifts and pledges for a new facility to
replace the aging Clark Craig Fieldhouse. For more information
about the proposed wellness center, see the link on the left column.

About
the Campaign
During
the 1994-95 academic year, University personnel conducted a needs
analysis to determine areas within the University where program,
facility, equipment and endowment needs currently exist. The findings
of that study revealed that unprecedented enrollment growth, rapidly
changing technology, and extensive use of University equipment
and facilities had created a significant new challenge to secure
additional funding.
As
a result, in July 1995 OBU's Board of Trustees approved a comprehensive
analysis of the university's most urgent and strategic needs for
the future. They further recommended that the University's administration
proceed with plans to conduct a capital campaign to secure funds
for the projects identified in the needs analysis. The "Foundation
for the Future" campaign takes that strategic analysis as our
point of departure. Our goal is to secure commitments to meet
OBU's most critical needs in the areas of endowment, capital improvements,
and operations.

ENDOWMENT
NEEDS
Through the
endowment component of the campaign, OBU seeks to expand the permanent
pool of financial resources which will undergird OBU's educational
programs now and throughout the coming years. OBU is seeking more
than $10 million in new endowment funds through the Foundation
for the Future Campaign to ensure OBU's ability to offer the best
in Christian liberal arts education for decades to come.

CAPITAL NEEDS
This category
designates OBU's most significant facility and equipment needs,
the "bricks and mortar" projects which constitute the most visible
element of any capital campaign. The following major capital projects
have been identified by OBU's strategic planning process as the
most significant challenges for OBU's future:
1.
Residence Complex for Women Students
2.
Visual and Performing Arts Facilities
3.
Raley Chapel Renovation
4.
Men's Apartments
5.
Fieldhouse Reconstruction
6.
Campus Expansion

OPERATING
NEEDS
The
Foundation for the Future Campaign will incorporate OBU's annual
fund and current scholarship fund with a $5 million goal for operating
support over five years. A significant number of OBU's alumni
and friends give faithfully each year to support the wide variety
of programs funded by OBU's operating budget. While pursuing special
gifts in the context of the capital campaign, OBU needs to sustain
its stable base of financial support for regular operating expenses
through the inclusion of both our annual fund and our current
scholarship fund in the overall campaign effort.
