 Federal and state government agencies offer a wealth of information to the general public.  More and more of this information can be found on the Internet, with additional resources added daily.

Here are a few of the best sites to help you find government information:

  • GPO Access  Over 70 databases of government information. Includes full text of The Daily Congressional Record, Code of Federal Regulations, U.S. Code, etc.
  • Federal Web Locator (Villanova Center for Information Law and Policy)  Links to nearly every government agency, as well as to university and other websites indexing government information. Searchable.
  • University of Michigan Documents Center  Another University source of government information. Full-text coverage of hot topics in the news.
  • Oklahoma State Documents Department  The Documents department at Oklahoma State University maintains a gateway to GPO Access, with an easy-to-use search feature. Also good links to state and international information.
  • Uncle Sam Migrating Government Documents (University of Memphis)  Governments have taken the lead in moving information from paper to electronic form. This site will connect you with the full text of many documents now available on the web.
  •  Federal Consumer Information Center   Hundreds of free publications to read on-line or order.  Every topic from automobiles to weather.  Entertaining and informative.
  •  Access America for Students  Government sites of special interest to college students.  Financial aid forms, career resources, student loan information.

  • THOMAS--Legislative Information on the Internet  This is the place for current legislative information. Check the status of major legislation, congressional committee reports, and historical documents. Updated daily.
  • White House The White House maintains a "virtual library" of press releases and information about the first families. Take a tour of the White House without crowds.
  • Department of State  Traveling outside the US? Look here first for. Bulletins and information about every nation. Foreign policy statements and updates.
  • Bureau of the Census The source for social, demographic, and economic data. Information from the 1990 census of population, as well as the 1992 economic census.
  • Government Printing Office  General information about publications available free or for sale from the government. The Monthly Catalog of Government Publications (indexed since 1994) can be searched here.
  •  Subject List (Duke University)  Great list of government sites arranged by subject.  This will help you locate material on specific topics--from business to urban development.  Links to selected non-government sites as well.
  •  More Subject Areas  (University of Louisville)  Over one hundred topics arranged alphabetically.  Cross-references to related materials.

  • Oklahoma State Government Information Server  Links to nearly every Oklahoma State Agency and branch. The Employment Security Commission maintains Oklahoma Job Net, which can be accessed from this site.
  • Oklahoma Department of Libraries  ODL is the official state library of Oklahoma, and is a Regional Depository for Federal and State documents. This site contains ODL publications and program information.
  • United Nations The premier site for international statistics and reports. Has easy-to-use search capability.
  • Country Studies  These popular books each cover a single country or region of the world.  Everything you'd ever want to know about our neighbors, near and far.  Each can be searched or browsed.
  • STATISTICS
  • FEDSTATS  Statistics compiled by over 70 different government agencies. Different areas profiled each month.
  • Stat-USA  Includes all kinds of statistical data--international as well as US. National Trade Data Bank, and lots more. (Available only on the OBU campus.)
  • CenStats  Selected Census databases, including County Business Patterns (employment and earnings  by SIC code), occupation data from the 1990 census, and USA Counties (demographic information, updated every two years).
  • AskEric   Free search of the ERIC education database which locates reports and articles. The virtual library contains  hundreds of  lesson plans and information guides.
  • SEARCH ENGINES
  • GovBot Specialized search engine which indexes nearly 350,000 U.S. government and military webpages.
  • Googlesearch Uncle Sam  This version of a popular search engine returns only federal government websites.
  • Fedworld  From the National Technical Information Service.  Searches 20+ government databases, technical reports, federal job announcements, and more.
  •  SearchGov.com   Another strictly government search engine.  Quick links to agencies, state governments, and popular publications.
