If there are sufficient funds to purchase new subscriptions, your recommendation will be considered for approval through the normal MLC (departmental chair / liaison librarian) acquisitions process. All periodical requests or cancellations must be approved by the Dean of Library Services, who operates as the coordinator of online database titles and print titles.

5 It is more expensive to provide a current paper subscription with associated binding costs than to purchase the title in microform or electronic format. (Microform subscriptions generally arrive three months after paper subscription late, electronic subscriptions usually appear within two to four weeks.)

Although Periodical And Standing Order Recommendations By Teaching Faculty Are Vital And Extremely Important, Periodical And Standing Order Decisions Are Generally Made By The Faculty Librarians Because They Are A Long-Term, Continuing Decision.  Such Decisions Must Be Related To The Primarily Undergraduate Curriculum Program Of The University, Anticipated Future Periodical / Standing Order Budgets, Space In Building For Periodicals, Value To Succeeding Generations Of Faculty And Students, Availability In Local Or Nearby Libraries, InterLibrary Loan Or Courier Considerations, Necessity Of Indexing In Sources Owned Or Leased By The Library, And The Type Of Format Most Needed Or Desired By Students.
