Bachelor of Music in Music Theory and Composition

Students who are enrolled in the B.Mus., theory/composition degree receive the training required to matriculate at the best graduate schools in theory and composition in the United States.  Graduates of OBU's theory and composition program have continued on to pursue graduate-level work at prestigious schools including the University of Iowa, Westminster Choir College, and Yale. Students take courses in style analysis, contemporary idioms, applied composition, music synthesis, and compile a catalog of works suitable for a senior-level composition recital.  In addition, students take courses in conducting, advanced music literature, and other courses as per their personal interests and ideas.

Dr. James Vernon works with students in the Music Technology Lab.
